Another Recession Special!
Come out for a fabulous classical concert and join us for drinks at O'Neals across the street after the concert.
Given the high interest in the MeetUp at the New York Philharmonic in March, we have organized another event with the orchestra. On Thursday, May 7, 2009, the New York Philharmonic is performing a program featuring Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, Titan. Also on the concert is the world premiere of a work by Grammy-winning composer, Peter Lieberson, and features the renowned mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. This new work is a song cycle of texts by various poets, including Rainer Maria Rilke. All pieces on the program will be conducted by Alan Gilbert, who becomes the new Music Director of the New York Philharmonic next year. Every classical music lover should take the opportunity to hear a Mahler symphony performed live – the experience will bring you to your feet. Gustav Mahler was actually Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in the last years of his life 1909-1911, and his symphonies have since been a signature of the Philharmonic.
