Hallo Zusammen, We are going to the brand new location located at South Street Seaport. If it rains we'll have to cancel the event. Please take these directions with you so you can find the place. I will bring a German flag so you can find me at the picnic tables near the dock. Grab your flip flops and volley ball and come out to South Street to enjoy the evening at the bar on a beach. We'll meet at the picnic tables. Food and drink:
The menu can be found on the website and mainly consists of hot dogs and fries. Please be advised that no outside food or drinks are allowed and you must be 21 to attend. The drink menu is cheap and extensive with $6 beers, Sangria and cocktails. For more details check the website. Website:

Due to popular demand, we're meeting again for a large Meetup event. Please RSVP for a great party. "Alkohol, oh Alkohol! Du bisst mein Feind, das weiß ich wohl. Doch in der Bibel steht geschrieben, auch deine Feinde soll mann lieben!" It's time to celebrate the unofficial start of summer, post memorial day weekend. So come on out to start the summer for a mix and mingle with Germans and German speaking friends. I hope you will join us. This bar is little bit different than our usual Meetup locations, it's a bit more upscale. It's a really cool bar & lounge with large outdoor garden and a dance floor on the second floor. You must be over 21 and there is a dress code, sorry no sneakers or t-shirts. You can check out the website here:

Hi Everyone, Some of you may remember an old member of our group, Thiemo. He has come to visit us from Frankfurt this week. And another member of our group has some friends visiting from Germany as well. So if you're not doing anything for Memorial Day, we were planning to have an informal picnic in Central Park Monday afternoon from 2pm - 6pm. This is a totally informal event, just hang out and spreche Deutsch wenn du willst or lay out on the lawn and enjoy the nice weather. What to bring: A picnic blanket, sunscreen, sandwich and beverage of your choice. Just to make this easier for everyone, please bring your own food and beverages. Disclaimer: Alcohol is prohibited in the Park. I would prefer if people didn't drink, but if you do, you drink at your own risk and the group is not responsible if you get arrested. :P (light-hearted laugh) Where to find us: (write this down or print it out) We will meet at the North West side of the Sheep Meadow in Central Park which is located at 67th Street, just inside the park next to Tavern on the Green. If you walk into the park from Tavern on the Green, cross the street inside the park and you will see the fence around the Sheep Meadow. On the left side there are bathrooms and tall trees. we will be somewhere near the the tall trees and bathrooms (inside the fence). I will have a bunch of red balloons in honor of our dear German pop star Nena. What if it rains? Unfortunately we'll have to cancel if we have "pech" as they say in German. Another Recession Special! Come out for a fabulous classical concert and join us for drinks at O'Neals across the street after the concert. Given the high interest in the MeetUp at the New York Philharmonic in March, we have organized another event with the orchestra. On Thursday, May 7, 2009, the New York Philharmonic is performing a program featuring Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, Titan. Also on the concert is the world premiere of a work by Grammy-winning composer, Peter Lieberson, and features the renowned mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. This new work is a song cycle of texts by various poets, including Rainer Maria Rilke. All pieces on the program will be conducted by Alan Gilbert, who becomes the new Music Director of the New York Philharmonic next year. Every classical music lover should take the opportunity to hear a Mahler symphony performed live – the experience will bring you to your feet. Gustav Mahler was actually Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in the last years of his life 1909-1911, and his symphonies have since been a signature of the Philharmonic. Tickets:
A block of 40 seats is being held for the German Culture MeetUp Group. For those who attended the Handel concert and found themselves seated apart from the group, please know that special consideration has been given to the ticketing for this event, and you are guaranteed a seat next to another group member and within the group block. All seats are on the orchestra level for a price of just $29 each. In order to take advantage of this offer, members should call Arlene Jacobs at (212) 875-5672 or email her at jacobsa@nyphil.org. The cut-off date will be Monday, May 4, 2009, at 4:30 PM. Buyers should have a credit card ready and their tickets will be at the Avery Fisher Hall box office in the names of the people who respond. There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased by an individual. Please note that the group sales box office is open Monday through Friday 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, so don’t panic if you are unable to contact the box office over the weekend. *When ordering tickets please remember to mention that you are a member of the GERMAN MeetUp Group, as there may be other promotions for different MeetUp Groups that evening. Greetings, Everyone
A member of our group Rob Wendt is playing at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, April 26, at 1:30 PM. Ron will perform with Joanna Becker a Bartok rhapsody for violin and piano, as well as a few melodies by Prokofiev. There are a few other performers on the bill, all of which are excellent, playing pieces by Liszt, Chopin and Debussy. Tickets are $25.
